Logger's Code of Practice
WPLA Member Loggers are important stewards of Wisconsin’s forest resource. Members are committed to raising the visibility, trust and respect of the logging profession by adhering to a strict code of practice that reflects positively on forestry and the state’s forest industry. All WPLA members agree to be responsible professionals by upholding the following performance standards and principles:
- Practice forestry and timber harvesting in a manner that promotes sustainable forest management.
- Be responsible for the execution of all phases of the harvesting operation, from stump to roadside transport.
- Participate in voluntary certification and education programs.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws; industry standards; and guidelines applicable to the timber harvesting business.
- Comply with the Wisconsin Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI©) annual training standard.
- Operate their business professionally by obtaining a federal employer identification number, administering a payroll, and maintaining bother General Liability and Worker’s Compensation Insurance as required.
- Maintain positive working relationships with landowners, procurement personnel, and the public, by operating their business safely and courteously at all times.
- Support WPLA to address issue through communication, education, and legislation.
- Continuously strive to educate themselves, their employees, peers, and the public about the logging profession and forest management practices.
- Act responsibly to uphold the integrity of the logging profession.
- Promote professional conduct among Wisconsin loggers.
